Tests

Here at JOLI Diagnostic, we strive to provide tests that are relevant and useful to you and your patient’s core needs. Please take some time to review our test menu below:

Disaccharidase Determination
Small Bowel Biopsy

Lactase, sucrase, maltase, and palatinase (in lieu of isomaltase) activities can be determined from an intestinal biopsy weighing approximately 5 mg wet weight. Upon collection, the specimen should be placed in a small, tightly capped, plastic tube. A 1.5 mL microtube works well. The tissue should not be placed on gauze or filter paper, nor should any saline, support or embedding material be added. The sample should be kept frozen and stored at -20°C to -70°C until it can be shipped to JOLI Diagnostic. Ship overnight by appropriate courier (i.e. UPS / Fed Ex) to JOLI Diagnostic. Turn-Around Time: Results Same Day as receipt of specimen. Results will be faxed and mailed upon assay completion.

Pancreatic Enzyme Activities
Duodenal aspirate

Trypsin, amylase, lipase, and chymotrypsin activities can be determined from 0.5mL of duodenal fluid. The sample can be a single fluid or part of a secretin stimulation test. The pH of the fluid must be 6.0 or above at the time of collection. A lower pH suggests gastric contamination which will irreversibly destroy the enzyme activities. The aspirate should be placed in a small, tightly capped, plastic tube. Keep sample frozen and ship on dry ice. Turn-Around Time: Results Same Day as receipt of specimen. The results will be faxed and mailed to you immediately following assay completion.

Pancreatic Elastase in Stool
1 Gram Random Formed Stool

Pancreatic elastase (PE) is not degraded during intestinal transit and the concentration of PE in a stool sample reflects exocrine pancreatic function. This assay allows the diagnosis or exclusion of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, which can be caused by chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic tumor, cholelithiasis or diabetes mellitus.
Pancreatic enzyme supplementation therapy should be discontinued prior to sample collection.
The sample should be kept frozen and stored at -20°C to -70°C until it can be shipped to JOLI Diagnostic. Ship overnight by appropriate courier (i.e. UPS / Fed Ex) to JOLI Diagnostic. Turn-Around Time: Test run on Fridays. The results will be faxed and mailed to you immediately following assay completion.

Fecal Calprotectin

Calprotectin is a polyclonal ELISA test designed to determine the concentration of calprotectin in stool samples. Elevated concentrations of calprotectin in stool samples suggests the presence of intestinal inflammation. This test is useful to aid in differentiating between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and also as a monitor in the treatment of IBD. Approximately 1 gram of stool should be placed in a plastic container with no additives and stored frozen (-20° to -70°C) until shipment. Ship overnight on dry ice to ensure stool temperature does not exceed 30°C in transit. Turn-Around Time: Test performed weekly. The results will be faxed and mailed immediately following assay completion.

Helicobacter pylori Specific Antigen in Stool
Stool Test

Non-invasive Helicobacter pylori Specific Antigen (HpSA) testing can detect an active H. pylori infection in the patient stool specimen. Other antibody tests can screen for H.pylori exposure but cannot distinguish between an active infection and a resolved episode. Testing for an active infection helps ensure the eradication of H.pylori after treatment.
A random stool sample of about 5 grams of fresh stool should be collected in a sterile plastic container. Samples should be frozen and sent to JOLI within 24 hours of collection. The sample should be kept frozen and stored at -20°C to -70°C until it can be shipped to JOLI Diagnostic. Ship overnight by appropriate courier (i.e. UPS / Fed Ex) to JOLI Diagnostic. Turn-Around Time: Test performed weekly. The results will be faxed and mailed to you immediately following assay completion.
